Your financial support will help cover the high cost of day-to-day operations, purchasing much needed equipment and providing emergency services in this community and is genuinely appreciated. Please Make Your Annual Contribution Today.
A Volunteer Fire Department Our Department is 100% volunteer. We are your neighbors, your coworkers, and your friends. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, we volunteer our time to protect your lives and property. When the 911 center dispatches our department WE GO! Without Hesitation! Without Pay! Our firefighters complete hundreds of hours of training every year to ensure our readiness to respond when you need us most and to maintain our State Firefighter Certifications. Our firefighters also provide community services such as fire prevention programs each year to local school, daycares and civic organizations.
Harris County does not have a fire department and must rely on volunteers to provide fire services. As shocking as that may sound, over 70% of all fire departments in the United States are volunteer departments. These departments are in Rural Communities like Harris County where few industries are established, and county revenues are generated primarily from property and sales taxes.
Insurance Services Office (ISO) Rating Effective July 1, 2021, our department improved its ISO rating classification from a Class 5 to a Class 4. The improved lower rating is a Win-Win situation for home and business owners in our fire district, Improved Fire Protection and Discounted Insurances Premiums. The ISO rates communities on a scale of 1 through 10 based on fire safety contingencies. When your fire department has a low ISO rating, your insurance premiums will be at the lower end of the scale. Our departments Class 4 rating is among the best in the county, saving you hundreds of dollars in insurance premiums every year.
Additional Fire Station Recently, a generous Cataula resident donated 2 acres of land to our department to build a 3rd Fire Station. The land is located at 7211 US Hwy 27 and is just south of the Cataula VFW. We have begun the planning of the building and land preparation. This will be a very expensive undertaking. Harris County does not provide land, develop land or build fire stations, this expense falls entirely on the volunteer fire department and the community we protect. Upon completion of this station and housing a Fire Engine in it, we will be able to provide much faster response times to home and business owners in our fire district and to a part of the county that doesn’t currently have a fire station anywhere nearby. Your financial support will help cover the expense of developing the land, building the fire station, and housing a fire engine.
